Pickleball in Hays, North Carolina
Hays players use nearby Wilkesboro for the area court choices.
Cub Creek Park provides eight outdoor courts from sunrise to sunset. The Wilkes Family YMCA offers indoor morning sessions six days a week.
Together they cover public outdoor play, weather protected games, solo visitors, and groups that need several courts.
Cub Creek is the better choice for flexible daytime play and a complete outdoor park experience. The YMCA is more useful when weather is poor or joining a recurring session matters.
Eight Outdoor Courts and an Indoor Backup
Cub Creek Park at 206 South Bridge Street in Wilkesboro has eight pickleball courts. Six were built in 2021, and two additional courts were resurfaced in 2022.
The 203 acre park is open from sunrise to sunset. It includes restrooms, water fountains, walking tracks, playgrounds, picnic areas, a dog park, and mountain bike trails.
Wilkes Family YMCA at 1801 YMCA Boulevard offers three indoor courts from 5:00 to 11:00 am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
One court is available during the same hours Tuesday and Thursday. The full gym is used from 8:00 to 11:00 am Saturday.
Learning the Game
Cub Creek Park gives beginners enough space to practice without occupying the area only court.
A new foursome can use one of the eight courts for serving, scoring, and short doubles games. You can pause between games to work on returns and movement to the kitchen line.
Bring paddles, outdoor balls, water, and court shoes.
Indoors, the YMCA three court mornings are the more comfortable starting point when cold, rain, or wind would make outdoor learning difficult.
Players who want structured instruction can use the Coaches section for private and small group options.
Morning Sessions and Social Games
The Wilkes Family YMCA supplies the area recurring schedule.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday have the largest setup, with three courts available for six hours. Those sessions offer room to rotate partners and separate games by pace.
Tuesday and Thursday use one court, making those mornings better for a planned foursome or focused drills. Saturday from 8:00 to 11:00 am is the regular weekend option.
Cub Creek Park complements that schedule with eight outdoor courts throughout daylight hours.
A group can meet there at its own time, run a round robin across several courts, or divide beginners and experienced players into separate games.
